Raise The Roof: Signs That it is Time to Replace Your Roof
The roof of your home is incredibly important. Not only is it the aesthetic apex of your residence, it provides protection against the elements. Suffolk County Home Improvement has many years worth of roof repair and replacement, not just Long Island bathroom remodeling and Long Island kitchen remodeling. We are all things Long Island home remodeling. To show you what we mean, we have put together a list of reasons why it may be time for you to replace your home’s roof.
It’s Been Over 25 Years Since Your Roof Was Replaced
Did you know that your roof will show considerable wear and tear after 25 years? Typically, an asphalt roof will last until it is about thirty years old. If it exceeds this, it is probably starting to deteriorate. Also, if you notice a trend with your neighbors replacing their roofs, you may want to consider doing the same. Keep track of your roof’s age. It could mean a world of difference for your home.
You Notice Your Roof’s Shingles Start Curling
This is one of the major signs that you will need roof replacement. Any Long Island General Contractor will tell you the same. The shingles on a roof tend to curl in two kinds of ways. First, there is cupping. This means that the edges of the shingles beginning to turn upward. The other type of curling is called clawing. Clawing is when the edges of the shingles remain flat but the middle of the shingle is sort of bubbling up. Either way, they are both signs that your roof is past its prime.
Shingles Start Vanishing
While it is true that sometimes you may have to replace a shingle or two, but if you start noticing large patches of missing shingles, you may have a problem. Finding a match for individual shingles can also be a challenge since they tend to change color and texture over time. If your entire roof starts to resemble a chess set, it may be time for a brand new roof.
Cracks in the Shingles
Strong winds can do a lot of damage to roofs, especially individual shingles. Again, if you notice just a few cracked here and there, you should be fine. But if there is a strange, random pattern of cracks throughout your entire roof, it could be time to think about full replacement.
Sunshine…in the House?
We could all use some healthy vitamin D, but the house isn’t really the place for it. If you are on the top floor of your home, like your attic, and rays of sunlight are seeping in, that is definitely not a good sign for your roof. If light can get through your roof, so can rain, snow, and cold air! Check out the ceiling in your attic for water damage stains. If you do find them, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your ceiling over the next few storms. If it gets wet in the attic, it may be time for a new roof.
A Saggy Roof is a Recipe for Disaster!
This is probably the most noticeable, and most dangerous sign that you need a new roof. If your whole roof is beginning to sag, that means there is likely an issue with its decking or foundation support. You may not be in immediate danger, but if left unrepaired, the entire roof could collapse. It is much smarter to take care of this kind of problem as soon as you notice it, rather than wait for it to get worse.
